Most people when they think of weight loss, they think about counting calories. This is because there are so many diets out there that will literally make you count every single calorie that you consume. But this isn't what it is all about...or at least it shouldn't be.
Counting calories, although it can help one to eat in a more moderate manner, can also put a lot of stress on an individual. It can often make individuals feel as though they are being deprived or punished, and that feeling alone, can trigger unwanted food cravings.
One way to avoid food cravings is to consume plenty of leaf vegetables. The great thing about them is that they are super low in calories, which means that you can load up on them and not feel guilty. The only problem is that leaf vegetables generally do not taste the best, but the good new is that the more you have them, the more you begin to like them.
Another problem with leaf vegetables, or any fruit or vegetable for that matter, is that they tend to make you more hungry when you first begin eating them. But once again, the good news is that once your body gets used to the new amount of greens you can actually fill up on them just like with anything else.
Avocados, nuts and seeds, and coconuts are also excellent foods to add into your diet during weight loss. They are high in fat, however, they can help you to avoid junk food cravings because they take longer for the stomach to digest. These foods are also extremely high in calories, but don't worry about them because they are nutrient rich calories, which means that once you have eaten enough, you will automatically stop. And if you do overeat, say like on a guacamole, then you just won't get hungry again for another several hours.
Other things that you can do to lose weight without counting calories, include eating slow and drinking plenty of water. Eating slow will make it easier on your digestive system because instead of spending so much time breaking down the food, it can concentrate on absorbing the nutrients. And drinking plenty of water basically helps to wash the body from the inside out. Some experts also recommend that you drink a glass of water before a meal in order to avoid overeating.
Once you begin to make some changes in your diet, you will realize that you no longer have to count calories, because your body will begin to let you know when you have eaten enough.
